Wearable Technology in the National Football League

Abstract

In the National Football League, teams' decision-making has never been as data-driven as today. One of the most recent technical advancements in the world of sports sciences has been the introduction of wearable technology. This refers to technology athletes can wear during their activity on the field, providing a way to collect an immense amount of data on their overall performance and health. From GPS trackers to advanced biometric sensors, teams can optimize how players train, compete, and recover at an unprecedented level. Having access to various biometric data, teams can develop analytical models for predicting injury risk and proactively mitigate the occurrence of injuries. Ultimately, wearable technology helps maximize the performance and longevity of players. This thesis will uncover the impact of wearable technology on player health in the National Football League through an extensive literature review.
