Abstract
High-availability WAN connectivity has traditionally been implemented and marketed by service provider as business-grade services customized for large enterprises. These solutions may be prohibitively expensive especially for smaller entities. At the same time, residential broadband access has been increasingly commoditised. In business, incentives to reduce networking costs have grown as well as the development of multihoming and Virtual Private Network solutions to achieve economic cuts. This thesis aims to produce an answer to the economic feasibility for a virtual provider to implement and supply medium size enterprises with a connectivity solution based on a new model: Redundant Array of Independent Internet Connections (RAIIC) utilizing Mobile IP. The target of RAIIC is to offer the same flexibility and reliability as traditional' MPLS or Ethernet private lines but with lower pricing. In this respect, a market analysis is conducted along with techno economic modelling. Both technical and economic aspects are covered through SWOT analysis. Delivery channels and a cost benefit analysis are also developed. The results obtained tend to prove the profitability and the positive market impact of the business case is established.Description
