Abstract
This research examines into the profound role of environmental sound in the formation and expression of queer identity, with a specific focus on the diasporic journey of Arab queerness and its interactions within host nations. Employing the methodology of autoethnography, I interlace my individual narrative with broader societal frameworks, ideologies, and power dynamics, exploring the nuanced themes of identity, belonging, and marginalization. Divided into two distinct yet interconnected sections, the thesis unfolds its narrative. The first part, "Cassette," serves as a canvas for personal reflections and memories, offering an intimate portrayal of lived experiences. In contrast, the second section, "Chewed Cassette," adopts an objective stance, housing a comprehensive literature review. This dual structure not only summaries the subjectivity inherent in personal storytelling but also presents a scholarly exploration through a neutral lens. By embracing an interdisciplinary approach, this thesis endeavors to shed light on the intricate interplay between queer phenomenology, soundscapes, and environmental contexts. It seeks to uncover how these elements coalesce to mold cognitive processes and shape the multifaceted experiences of queer individuals navigating diverse landscapes. Through this exploration, the research aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamic relationship between identity formation, sound, spatiality, and sensory perception.Description
