Abstract

The main purpose of this thesis was to examine how decision-making models developed by entrepreneurial teams progress throughout the various stages of the venture's life cycle. Five founding members were interviewed about their experience in developing their decision-making processes, utilizing the Gioia analysis method. This research identified that there are three distinct developmental states of decision-making processes for entrepreneurial teams. In the initial venture development stages, decision-making occurs on an informal and intuitive basis. In the growth phase of the venture, decision-making is formally established and structured. In the later (mature) stages of the venture, decision-making is conscious and flexible to enable successful long-term performance. One major contribution of this study was the creation of the Adaptive Decision-Making Toolbox. The Adaptive Decision-Making Toolbox represents a practical synthesis of the theoretical and empirical research to support the proactive management and improvement of the decision-making capability of entrepreneurs as their ventures grow and evolve.
