Abstract
Tässä diplomityössä esitellään yksi toteutustapa historiallisesti merkittävän raunion uudelleenkäyttämiseksi. Aihetta käsitellään julkisen rakentamisen näkökulmasta. Suunnittelutyön kohteena on Italian Napolissa sijaitsevan historiallisen vesisäiliön, Piscina Mirabilisin, muuttaminen nykytaiteen museoksi. Raunion yhteyteen suunnitellaan myös uudisrakennus. Tavoitteena on selvittää mahdollisuuksia unohdettujen raunioiden uudelleenkäyttöön, sekä samalla aktivoida ja eheyttää niiden lähiympäristöä. Työ alkaa antiikin Rooman aikaisia akveduktijärjestelmiä taustoittavasta osiosta, sekä raunion analyysista. Analyysivaiheen lähteinä käytetään Piscina Mirabilisia käsittelevää kirjallisuutta. Työssä käsitellään myös adaptiivisen uudelleenkäytön (adaptive reuse) lähestymistapoja ja teorioita sekä toteutustapoja museokohteissa referenssien kautta. Adaptiivinen uudelleenkäyttö on viime vuosikymmeninä saavuttanut kasvavaa kiinnostusta ja mahdollistanut vanhojen rakennusten ja rakenteiden henkiin herättämisen. Raja on kuitenkin häilyvä historiaa kunnioittavan adaptoinnin ja merkittävän nykyaikaisiin tarpeisiin mukauttamisen välillä. Työn loppuosa koostuu yksityiskohtaisesta suunnitelmasta, jossa esitetään raunion muuttamista nykytaiteen museoksi. Uudelleenkäyttösuunnitelmassa pyritään luomaan julkisen rakennuksen nykypäivän tarpeet täyttävä suunnitelma kunnioittaen historiallista rauniota Korkea, teatraalinen tila toimii mittasuhteiltaan mielenkiintoisena alustana näyttelyille. Kulumisen vaikutukset rauniossa ja entinen käyttötarkoitus toimivat suunnittelulähtökohtina. Haastavaksi raunion uudelleenkäytön suunnittelussa osoittautuivat erityisesti nykyaikaisten vaatimusten, kuten esteettömyyden ja talotekniikan toteutukset. Lisärakennukseen sijoittuvat museon tukitoiminnot, jotka eivät sovellu sijoitettavaksi raunioon. Työn yksi tavoite oli selvittää arkkitehdin ja sisustusarkkitehdin välisen yhteistyön mahdollisuuksia ja vastuualueiden jakoa suunnitteluprosessissa. Tarkoituksena oli toteuttaa kaksi erillistä opinnäytetyötä yhdestä suunnitteluprojektista. Tässä työssä esitetty suunnitelma perustuu arkkitehtuurikilpailutyöhön, joka on tehty yhteistyössä sisustusarkkitehtuurin opiskelijan Sisko Anttalaisen kanssa. Lopulta aiheesta valmistui vain tämä diplomityö, jossa arvioidaan myös varhaisen yhteistyön mahdollisuuksia ja haasteita.This thesis presents an implementation method for the reuse of a historically significant Roman ruin. The objective of the design work is to transform Piscina Mirabilis, a Roman water reservoir, into a museum of contemporary art. A new building is also designed in connection with the ruin. The thesis begins by providing background on aqueduct systems during the Roman Empire and the analysis of the ruin. Literary material on Piscina Mirabilis is used as a source for the analysis phase. The thesis also deals with adaptive reuse approaches and theories as well as implementation methods in museum sites through references. The latter part of the work presents a detailed plan for transforming the ruin into a museum of contemporary art. The aim of the work is to create an adaptive reuse plan that meets the needs of a public building while respecting the value of an ancient historical ruin. The design process begins by exploring possible approaches to reconcile the old and the new. Adaptive reuse has gained increasing interest in recent decades and made it possible to revive old buildings and structures. However, the line is fine between the history-respecting adaptation and significant adaptation to modern requirements. This thesis explores the technical and architectural possibilities of adaptive reuse in ruins. The high, theatrical space of the reservoir serves as an interesting platform for exhibitions. The wear on the material and the memory of the former use serve as primary design starting points. The adaptation and implementation possibilities of modern requirements, such as accessibility and building technology, proved to be a challenge in the design process. Functions that do not serve their purpose in the historic structure are located in the annex. The aim is to enliven the area and increase its attractiveness while making use of the existing historical and cultural heritage. One of the aims of this thesis was to examine the possibilities and the division of labor between an architect and an interior architect during a design process. The purpose was to carry out separate theses on one design project, with the aim of clarifying the responsibilities between the designers. The plan presented in this thesis is based on an architectural competition work, which was done in collaboration with Sisko Anttalainen, a student of interior architecture. In the end, only one thesis was completed on this topic. This thesis also evaluates the opportunities and problems of early collaboration in the design process.Description
