Kvanttimekaanisen spinin matemaattinen kuvaus

Abstract

Tässä kandidaatintyössä käsitellään kvanttimekaanista spiniä esitysteorian näkökulmasta.Työssä käydään läpi keskeisimmät asiat ryhmä- ja esitysteoriasta ja annetaan esimerkkejä. Työssä tarkastellaan Lien ryhmiä ja Lien algebroja. Erityisessä tarkastelussa ovat Lien ryhmät SO(3) ja SU(2), koska ne selittävät kvanttimekaanisen spinin.

Työssä myös todistetaan Schurin lemma ja luokitellaan kaikki ryhmän SU(2) unitaariset redusoitumattomat esitykset. Lopuksi käsitellään ryhmien SO(3) ja SU(2) yhteyttä topologisesta näkökulmasta.

This bachelor thesis investigates quantum mechanical spin from the perspective of representation theory. The thesis covers foundations of group theory and representation theory. The focus is especially on the Lie groups SO(3) and SU(2), because the explanation of the quantum mechanical spin lies in the heart of these groups.

In the thesis, Schur’s lemma will be proven. Additionally, the classification of the unitary irreducible representations of the group SU(2) will be made. Lastly, the thesis investigates the topological connection between the groups SO(3) and SU(2).
