Abstract
This thesis explores the impact of reflective prototyping in the context of Internet of Things (IoT) within the concept design phase. While research on reflective practices is well-known, there is scope for further exploring the implementation of reflection in prototyping. Additionally, prototyping methods for IoT design in the early stages of the design process that can maximize learning need to be studied more.
This research analyzes the IoT projects developed by the students of the Design Thinking and Advanced Prototyping (DTAP) course, with the aim of understanding the ways in which reflective prototyping impacts the student’s learning outcomes when integrating design thinking into their IoT projects. The findings indicate that reflection helped the students approach problems from different perspectives and understand how to improve their design based on the user’s needs. The students were able to iterate, reflect on the design problems and decisions, and learn from the prototypes they made while also considering the users’ experiences.
