Abstract
The purpose of this thesis was to explore how the future workplace will evolve considering the rise in remote work experienced over the past few years. The strategy focused on identifying qualities and contexts—whether associated with working from the office or from home—that impact employees' physical and mental well-being.
The methodology consists of quantitative methods, including correlational and causal-comparative approaches, aimed at understanding perceptions of the contemporary workplace from both functional and aesthetic perspectives. Additionally, the study seeks to comprehend what has been established and predicted by other experts regarding the future workplace, especially in the context of increased digitalization.
Moreover, an online survey was conducted with 75 respondents from various work fields, all of whom have office-based jobs both with and without the option to work from home. The survey aimed to gain a deeper understanding of spatial workplace preferences, identify why people tend to favour working from home or at the office, and observe any differences between employees who work exclusively from home and those who do so part-time or full-time.
The final aim was to determine whether the physical office will become obsolete if working from home is the solution, or if we will continue to utilize physical office spaces. The concluding chapter presents these aspects of the future workplace based on the findings and results from the survey conducted.
