Abstract
The thesis studies the current state and the development of technologies and the markets for fire protective treatments for wood. The thesis consists of a literature part and a practical part. The literature part studies the concepts of wood burning, technologies of fire retardant treatments for wood and the factors restricting them, such as building codes, fire regulations, environmental impacts and safety aspects. The standards affecting the evaluation of fire and durability properties of fire protective treatments are also presented in the literature part. In the practical part 12 experts around the operating field were interviewed. The interviewees were chosen from different trades including designers, authorities, researchers and representatives of wood and paint industries. Interviews were done as qualitative in-depth interview, with an aim to perceive an overview of the current state and future developments on the field. As a result it was concluded that the market is twofold and mainly divided by application areas. The primary and the dividing application areas are public interior applications and exterior facades. The division of the market is visible in regional differences, in technological preferences, in market size and in the future developments of the market.Työssä tutkittiin puun palosuojakäsittelyjen teknologioita ja markkinatilannetta sekä niiden kehitystä. Työ koostuu kirjallisuusosasta ja kokeellisesta osuudesta. Kirjallisuusosassa paneudutaan puun palamiseen, puun palosuojauksen tekniikoihin ja niitä rajoittaviin tekijöihin, kuten paloturvallisuuden määräyksiin, ympäristökuormituksiin sekä terveysvaikutuksiin. Kirjallisuusosa myös kokoaa tärkeimmät palosuojakäsittelyjä koskettavat standardit palokäyttäytymiseen ja sen kestävyyden arviointiin liittyen. Kokeellisessa osassa haastateltiin 12 asiantuntijaa puun palosuojauksen toimintaympäristöstä. Haastateltavia valittiin suunnittelijoista, tutkijoista, viranomaisista ja teollisuudesta sekä puualan yrityksistä että käsittelytuotteiden valmistajista. Haastattelut tehtiin laadullisina syvähaastatteluina, joiden tavoitteena oli saada kuva alan nykytilasta ja tulevaisuuden trendeistä. Tulosten yhteenvetona todettiin, että markkinat ovat kahtiajakautuneet pääasiallisesti käyttökohdealueiden mukaan. Tärkeimmät käyttökohdealueet ovat julkiset sisätilat sekä julkisivut. Tämä jako näkyy niin alueellisissa markkinoissa, teknologioiden valinnassa, markkinan koossa kuin kasvupotentiaalissakin.Description
