Abstract
In this paper, I analyze the impact of board gender diversity on the environmental innovation score of a company. Using data from European publicly listed companies between 2010 and 2022, I include 5720 firm-year observations into the final sample of this study. I find a positive relationship between the gender diversity on the corporate boards and the environmental innovation performance. In addition, my results suggest that only one woman on the board is enough to create a positive impact on the firm's environmental innovation score. I also examine the joined effect of board gender diversity and environmental innovation score on the financial performance of a company, being not able to find a notable relation. All the results in this study stay consistent after robustness checks and additional analyses.
Analysoin tässä tutkimuksessa hallituksen sukupuolidiversiteetin vaikutusta yrityksen ekoinnovatiivisuuteen. Käyttämäni aineisto kattaa 5720 havaintoa eurooppalaisista pörssiyrityksistä vuosilta 2010–2022. Havaitsen positiivisen yhteyden yritysten hallitusten sukupuolen moninaisuuden ja ekoinnovatiivisuuden välillä. Lisäksi tulokseni viittaavat siihen, että yksi nainen hallituksessa riittää vaikuttamaan myönteisesti yrityksen ekoinnovatiivisuuteen. Tutkin myös hallituksen sukupuolen moninaisuuden ja ekoinnovatiivisuuden yhteisvaikutusta yrityksen taloudelliseen tulokseen, mutta en pysty osoittamaan merkittävää yhteyttä niiden välillä. Tutkimuksen tulokset pysyvät johdonmukaisina maa- ja toimialakohtaisten herkkyysanalyysien jälkeen.
