Abstract

What impact can para-fictional writing have as a research method? Can one, through para-fictive writing, create a deeper sense or knowledge of one’s own biases? Will this knowledge lead to behavioral changes? This thesis explores these questions. Whiteness and biases are examined/analyzed through para-fiction. The thesis consists of a theoretical part, an artistic part and a reflective part. The theory is based on research on whiteness from a Nordic perspective. Arts-based research, au- to-ethnography and para-fictional writing serves as methods. Main topics within the theory are racism, white privilege, colorblindness and biases. These topics are processed through self-written texts that are partly auto-ethnographic and partly fictive. Whiteness and biases are the themes that are exam- ined while para-fictive writing functions as research method.

Kan man med hjälp av para-fiktion skapa djupare kunskap om vithet och ens egna fördomar? Leder denna kunskap till någon form av ändring i ens beteende? Avhandlingen utforskar dessa frågor. Vithet och fördomar undersöks här med hjälp av para-fiktion. Avhandlingen består av en teoretisk del, en konstnärlig del samt en reflektiv del. Teorin bygger på forskning om vithet från ett nordiskt perspektiv. Som metod används konstbaserad undersökning, auto-etnografi och para-fiktivt skrivande. Huvudämnen inom teorin är rasism, vitt privilegium, färgblindhet och fördomar. Dessa ämnen behandlas med hjälp självskrivna texter som delvis är auto-etnografiska och delvis fiktiva. Para-fiktivt skrivande fungerar som forskningsmetod.
