Abstract

Opinnäytteeni fyysinen osuus, on seitsemänosainen vaatemallisto, jonka prosessia ja lopputulosta käyn läpi tässä tekstissä. Työskentelymetodini pyörivät digitaalisen kaavoituksen, 3D-mallintamisen, sekä perinteisempien vaatteiden, ja asusteiden valmistusmenetelmien välisessä limbossa. Visuaalinen taustatutkimukseni on henkilökohtaista empiiristä tutkimusta viime vuosien ajalta, joista on kuratoitu ajankohtaisimmat otokset. Kirjallinen taustatutkimukseni pohjautuu irrallisiin tekstilähteisiin. Keskiössä opinnäyte käsittelee ihmisen genetiikan hyväksikäyttöä ja yksityisyyden rajojen häipymistä, ja tätä muutosta vastaan taistelemista. Edellä mainitun ulkopuolella kaikki ideat ja yksityiskohdat ovat lähinnä irrallista ajatuksenvirtaa, joka on loppua kohden harsittu yhteen. Vaatteellisella tasolla pyrin löytämään mallistooni jonkunlaista tasapainoa vetämällä kiintopisteen kotivaatetukseen ja kotiin liittyviin objekteihin.

My thesis is comprised of a physical and a written part. The physical component is a seven-piece clothing collection, the process and outcome of which I will go through in this text. My working methods revolve around the intersection of digital pattern making, 3D modeling, and more traditional methods of clothing and accessory production. My visual research is a personal, empirical study collected over the past few years, from which I have curated the most relevant pieces. My written research is based on various text sources. At its core, the thesis deals with the exploitation of human genetics and the blurring of the boundaries of individual privacy, and the resistance of that. Outside of this, all ideas and details are largely a stream of consciousness that has been refined and condensed towards the end. On a clothing level, I aim to find balance in my collection by drawing inspiration from home wear and objects related to a home.
