dc.description.abstract | The content of this paper is the structural renovation of mass production highrises constructed in the 1990s in China. In the 1980s, China’s economy developed rapidly. In the urbanization process, to adapt to the needs of migration and industry reform, many highrise buildings were built to increase the density. However, these mass-produced highrises occupy precious land resources in the city center but are not in good use. With many restrictions, the best way to activate them is to renovate. The main reasons for their difficulty to use are their redundant structures, which lead to a mismatch between structures and required spaces and low flexibility. This paper aims to fundamentally resolve the contradictions between architectural space and structure in the mass-produced old highrises by exploring methods of structural renewal. A typical building, Yangtze Mansion, will be chosen to apply this renovation methodology in the design. It is set as a recycling center, which regards recycling as an activity that everyone can participate in. Hopefully, the exploration of this method can help find a proper way to optimize the renovation of highrise buildings. | en |
