Abstract

As of now, there is no standard reference sample or method for the measurement of the Extracellular Vesicles (EVs), and existing reference samples exhibit a different refractive index than EV particles. METVES II project (EMPIR) strives to demonstrate a standard method for EV measurements, and this thesis work carried out in VTT MIKES is a part of the metrological size measurements traceability of EVs, which calibrates an Atomic Force Microscope and prepares nanoparticle standard reference samples for the calibration of FCM and NT A instruments for EV measurements. This work includes AFM calibration processes using reference nanoparticle samples, sample preparation of a new type of reference sample and running AFM measurements, AFM data analysis, and measurement uncertainty evaluation.
