Abstract
The purpose of this research work has been to find out what factors influence on the increase of westbound traffic flows in Russian foreign trade sea transports. Changes in Russian export commodity structure; investment trends, logistics arrangements and stakeholders' roles; mega trends in routing and transport modes, legislation and legal requirements as well as many other trends were thoroughly discussed in theoretical part of the study. The purpose of the empirical part was to validate the importance of the factors identified in the theoretical part as well as to get hold of the specific knowledge of those trends and factors, which can be influenced by actions of a shipping company. Answers to the questions obtained in this part of the research allowed better understanding of what kind of value-added service could be offered to Russian export customers as well as what kind of special logistics arrangements and management of information flows would bring about the increase in westbound traffic. This study was conducted in the form of 13 in-depth interviews with the key executives of different Business Units within a shipping company as well as with executives working in Russian forwarding and stevedoring companies. The outcome of the analysis of the interviews was a general framework showing interdependency of the factors influencing on the increase in westbound traffic of shipping operator.
