Abstract

Wireless Sensor Evaluation Tools (WETs) software provides a comprehensive set of tools for evaluating and testing wireless sensor systems. The tools provide support for developing and debugging Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) applications. WETs can simulate the Wireless Sensor Network at a system and node level. The tools offer the advantage of simulating the interactions between heterogeneous wireless sensor nodes and enable visualization probing of the actual performance of the network. The tools can perform many functions, including (1) design any homogeneous or heterogeneous network; (2) use configuration options to configure node and network level parameters; (3) simulate and debug complete wireless sensor network systems (4) be utilized for optimizing network communication performance; and (5) detect anomalies before deploying in-field wireless sensors. The tools also support hardware-in-loop testing. This thesis presents the detailed design of the simulator and its software architecture. Furthermore, it discusses different components of the WETs tools architecture. In WETs, the node objects contain the device specific implementation code and also provide the platform for debugging. In addition, the thesis discusses the feasibility of using machine learning algorithms within the framework of WETs tools for parameter optimization tasks.
