Abstract

This work has two parts. Firstly, it contains a study made into the state of the Multimedia Message Service (MMS) standards and the feasibility of the author's employer building a compliant product. Secondly, it contains the design, implementation, and evaluation of one component in the actual MMS server product. This component is responsible for managing the control over the flow of messages through the system. This includes a prioritisation mechanism for the messages and functionality to limit the throughput of a given logical message flow. First the associated standards are reviewed and then a prototype exploring the implementation details is developed. Then the requirements of the flow control mechanism are described and a design implementing those requirements is introduced. Finally, the functionality is tested and evaluated.
