Abstract

Objectives The main objectives of this study were to study how football clubs’ revenue streams are correlated to their competitive performance and other financial components such as expenditures in the transfer market. Other main objective was to formulate a theoretical and conceptual framework based on the research questions. Examining if using more advanced statistical methods helps to gain better results was also a important research objective. Summary The study conducted regression analysis to inspect the relationship between the independent variables League Table Points, Transfer Expenditure, Player Salary Expenditure and Expected points with the dependent variable Revenue. It was also further discussed how these variables are related to the overall finances of the club and what are their key implications for the overall health of the club. Conclusions Out of the four independent variables, Expected Points and Transfer Expenditure did not correlate with the dependent variable Revenue to a significant degree. The other two independent variables League Table Points and Player Salary Expenditure did correlate with the dependent variable. The results mostly follow the consensus of the previous academic papers but expanded the research pool by partly studying the topic using more advanced statistical methods that have become the industry standard in the organizations’ own operations.
