Abstract

The goal of this Master's thesis is to study the different metrics that can be utilized to measure the productivity of a data center. This this work studies the alternative of matching the performance of the data center to the service they are offering and then the proportion of energy consumed. File storage systems and high processing services are analysed from a theoretical point of view, while web content and video streaming are measured based on real scenario. In addition, in this thesis it is shown the importance of adapting hardware and software of the installed equipment to the periodical demand in order to reduce considerably the energy consumption of the overall system.
