The purpose of this thesis is to provide the model for I&C projects based on a life cycle in the nuclear energy field. The focus is on the design process and other activities, such as quality, qualification, licensing, and verification & validation are included so that the overall view of the design process is clear and understandable. Relevant standards and regulation are studied since they establish the requirements basis for the model. The model divides I&C to four different hierarchy levels from high to low: plant, architecture, system, and equipment. Additionally, field level and quality aspects are involved in the model. At each level, for each phase, all inputs, activities, outputs, and exit criteria are provided. Additionally, the information flow between engineering disciplines is defined.en
