Abstract

This study explores the utility of DMAIC framework for effective project management in the context of supply chain management in multinational firms. This is done utilizing two case studies for a beauty industry corporation, ODES Library and Returns Receiving Retrofit. In ODES Library project, the framework is used to secure fragmented knowledge and expertise in a central knowledge management tool. For the Returns Receiving Retrofit, the DMAIC framework is leveraged to optimize the process of receiving returns at the fulfilment centres to propose uniform flows for receiving returns. Findings of the thesis demonstrate that DMAIC is effective in contextualizing the problem of the projects, identifying and analysing the pain points, developing solutions and implementing the improvements. This fundamentally enhances knowledge management and process efficiency, thus, positively impacting the supply chain performance. Despite some limitations faced during the study, the thesis provides valuable insights, proposes a DMAIC framework contextualized for supply chain project management and offers recommendations for leveraging DMAIC in similar contexts.
