Abstract

Containerisation is one of the key technologies that characterises modern cloud-computing. Thus, container orchestration frameworks have become increasingly important in recent years. Among the available technologies, Kubernetes has become the de facto standard for container orchestration due to its reliability and wide selection of features. For enterprises in particular, Kubernetes distributions managed by major cloud providers are preferred over the native Kubernetes due to enhanced support, reliability, and scalability, as well as the comprehensive management tools and features they offer. This thesis compares and evaluates a selection of managed Kubernetes according to relevant features for enterprise use cases. The goal of this work is to identify the most suitable managed Kubernetes distributions for companies and organisations. The analysis utilises a multi-criteria evaluation framework in order to grade the chosen distributions based on a collection of features selected according to industrial interests. Through this process, the thesis ranks the distributions in terms of suitability for different enterprise requirements and priorities.
