Abstract

This Master's Thesis is a study from a hut and outhouse building types. These type of buildings represents the Finnish and universal folklore that still lives as Everyman folk architecture. These building types can also still be bought off the selves from the hardware stores. The variations of these building types are very limited and the prefab producers are the slaves of the old designs. There is a growing trend for more contemporary holiday homes, which creates an opportunity to reform also the hut and the outhouse. The idea for small scale production started from the cooperation with Finnforest. How to get Huhuussi to the market? At the moment the markets are full of products which are repeating the architectural designs from 50's. Is there a modern outhouse for modern summer cottages? Is it possible to compete against normal water base toilets? Could you have the outhouse in your cabin as an extra toilet just because it's ecological? Modern society is filled with technology and with a perpetual hurry. There is a demand for a place where you can breathe and enjoy the nature and its silence. Hut and outhouse are exactly about these values at its best.

Diplomityössäni tutkin kota sekä huussi rakennustyyppejä. Rakennustyypit edustavat suomalaista ja yleismaailmallista kansanperinnettä, joka elää edelleen ITE-arkkitehtuurina sekä erilaisina valmispaketteina rautakauppojen hyllyillä, omakotialueilla ja mökeillä. Variaatiot rakennustyypeistä ovat hyvin suppeita ja noudattavat orjallisesti vanhan mallin toistamista. Vapaa-ajan asunnoissa on suuntaus myös nykyarkkitehtuuriin, joka luo mahdollisuuden myös huussin ja kodan uudistukselle. Ajatus tuotteistamisesta lähti liikkeelle Finnforestin kanssa tehdystä yhteistyöstä Habitaren messujen yhteydessä. Miten Huhuussista saataisiin valmis tuote markkinoille? Tällä hetkellä markkinoilla olevat ulkokäymälät ovat arkkitehtonisilta ratkaisuiltaan jääneet 50-luvulle. Onko modernille kesämökille edes olemassa modernia huussia? Onko mahdollista kilpailla vesivessojen kanssa? Voisiko huussi olla vesivessankin omaavaan mökkiin lisä sen ekologisuuden takia? Nyky-yhteiskunta on kyllästetty tekniikalla ja ainaisella kiireellä. On tarve paikoille, joissa voi hengittää ja pysähtyä nauttimaan luonnosta ja sen hiljaisuudesta ilman ylimääräistä tekniikkaa. Kota sekä Huussi edustavat juuri näitä arvoja parhaimmillaan.
