Abstract
This thesis explores one possible relationship of sacred space and secular space in church architecture. It notes the issue that church space has a compromise on the secular context and is required for more secular meanings due to a societal change. Thus, the research question of this thesis is to define a new type of church space where sacred space and secular space have a positive dialogue. This thesis proposes a concept of semi-sacred space to response to this question that seeks to involve both qualities of sacred space and secular space and strengthen both characters of them, thereby meeting the potential needs from the contemporary context.
