Abstract
In this literature review, I approach physical activity through an economic perspective by beginning with a theoretical understanding of health. I follow this with empirical literature that quantifies the past and present consequences of physical inactivity. I observe intervention types and approaches to determine how they can be utilized to steer economic outcomes. Findings in these studies show that inactive individuals impose externalities and costs on themselves and others, and that there exists a trade-off between effectiveness and cost for intervening in physical activity. I aim to shed light on the potential limitations and applications to the real world, taking into account policymakers' perspectives throughout the thesis.Description
