Abstract
This thesis critically examines the paradoxical outcomes of Vietnam's region-based priority point policy, originally intended to foster educational equality. It empirically investigates the influence of this regional scoring system, macroeconomic indicators, and demographic factors on Vietnamese students' academic achievement. The study delves into the economics of education, focusing on the geographical impact on student attainment. It provides an overview of Vietnam's University and College Entrance Exam and employs multiple regression models to explore the dynamic effects of the variables. The findings suggest a need for policy modifications to enhance equality among students from diverse regions. Recommendations include reducing the baseline for priority scores for rural students, introducing a dynamic system considering student characteristics, and decreasing priority points for ethnic minority groups. The study also advocates for the integration of specialized programs into the existing educational system. However, further research is needed to consider student innate abilities, address incomplete GDP data, and analyze additional regional characteristics for a comprehensive understanding of student performance and policy development.Description
