Abstract

In the beginning of 1998, there wasn't any sales and marketing information system in use at L&H Mendez. Also the sales and marketing processes were inconsistent between the L&H Mendez country offices. The subject of this master's thesis was to plan and implement an information system that supports consistent sales and marketing at L&H Mendez. This information system, based on Lotus Notes, was planned, implemented and deployed in 1998. Then the system was used internationally until year 2000. The system was further developed according to the arising needs of L&H globally. In 2000, the international use of the system was discontinued, but the system remained in local use in Finland. The system is still in use at the company (whose current name is Lionbridge). The system has been further developed according to the local needs of the company from year 2000 to 2010. The exceptionally long time frame of this study has made it possible to retrospectively evaluate how this information system suceeded in real use in the course of many years. The system was a key instrument in developing L&H Mendez to a globally uniform company during years 1998 - 2000. The importance and usefulness of the system for the company is well demonstrated by the fact that the system is still in active use - over 12 years after the development of the system.

L&H Mendezissä ei ollut vuoden 1998 alussa käytössä kansainvälistä myynnin ja markkinoinnin tietojärjestelmää. Myös myynnin ja markkinoinnin prosessit olivat epäyhtenäisiä L&H Mendezin maatoimistojen kesken. Tämän diplomityön aiheena oli suunnitella ja toteuttaa tietojärjestelmä, joka tukee yhtenäistä myyntiä ja markkinointia L&H Mendezissä. Kyseinen Lotus Notes -pohjainen tietojärjestelmä suunniteltiin, toteutettiin ja otettiin käyttöön vuonna 1998, jonka jälkeen se oli kansain?välisessä käytössä vuoteen 2000 asti. Järjestelmää kehitettiin tuona aikana edelleen kansainvälisiä tarpeita varten. Vuonna 2000 järjestelmä jäi L&H Mendez Oy:n käyttöön paikallisesti Suomessa. Järjestelmä on edelleen yrityksen (nykyiseltä nimeltään Lionbridgen) käytössä. Järjestelmää on jatkokehitetty paikallisten tarpeiden mukaan vuosina 2000 - 2010. Diplomityön pitkä aikajänne on tehnyt mahdolliseksi myös retrospektiivisen tarkastelun tieto?järjestelmän toiminnasta käytännössä useiden vuosien ajalta. Järjestelmä oli avainasemassa L&H Mendezin kehittymisessä kansainvälisesti yhtenäiseksi yritykseksi vuosina 1998 - 2000. Järjestelmän merkitystä ja hyödyllisyyttä yritykselle kuvaa hyvin se, että järjestelmä on edelleen aktiivisessa käytössä, yli 12 vuotta järjestelmän suunnittelun jälkeen.
