Abstract

This thesis explores the idea of communicative puzzle design: how to design a puzzle game focusing on communicating with players rather than challenging players with difficult puzzles. The study is done by making a Sokoban variant puzzle, Kiko’s Apple Adventure. A puzzle communication model was built during the game development. This model describes the puzzle design and solving process as a communication loop, and provides a new perspective to see the relationship between a designer and a player.
