Abstract
Diplomityöni suunnittelukohde oli Tampereen keskustan läheisyydessä Kalevan alueella sijaitsevan opiskelija-asuntolan uudistaminen. Kohteesta järjestetty arkkitehtuurikilpailu hyväksyi kaikki ehdotukset korjauksesta purkamiseen ja vaati korttelin tehokkuuden lisäystä. Käytin tehtävää tutkimuskohteena kaupunkirakenteen tiivistämisen vaihtoehtojen arviointiin. Tarkastelin aihepiiriäni myös laajemmasta mittakaavasta nykyisen ilmastokriisin keskellä. Analysoin kohdettani osana nykyhetken arkkitehtuurinkenttää sekä osana ajallista jatkumoa. Tarkastelukulmani aiheeseeni oli ajankohtaisissa rakentamisen alan muutoksissa ympäristökysymysten suhteen. Rakennusten hiilidioksidipäästöjen laskenta ja arviointi tulevissa rakennushankkeissa tulee vaikuttamaan arkkitehdin rooliin koko Suomen rakennusteollisuuden painotuksen muuttuessa. Rakentamisen päästöjen vähentämiseksi olemassaolevan rakennuskannan kunnostus, uusiokäyttö ja kierrättäminen nousevat arvokkaksi tekijöiksi. Diplomityöni tarkasteli arkkitehdin roolia kestävän kehityksen ja kaupunkien muuttuvien tarpeiden välittäjänä. Tutkin rakennusten purkamista, minkä määrä on ollut viime aikoina kiihtyvää. Ilmiönä se näkyy erityisesti kasvavissa kaupungeissa, joissa rakennuksia ensisijaisesti puretaan uusien tieltä. Tutkin rakennusten purkamiselle vaihtoehtoisia ratkaisutapoja korjausrakentamisen piiristä. Tarkastelin erilaisia täydennysrakentamisen tapoja sekä keinoja uudistaa rakennuksia. Olemassa olevien rakennusten muokkaaminen ja ainoastaan osittainen purkaminen nousivat myös vaihtoehdoiksi. Esittelin myös korjausrakentamisen tapoja vaikuttaa rakennusten energiatehokkuuteen, joka on helposti perusteena purkavalle uusrakentamiselle korjauksen sijaan.The design task of my master’s thesis was a reform design of a student dormitory located in the Kaleva area near the center of Tampere. The architectural competition for the site accepted the whole range of proposals from renovation to a complete replacement and demanded an increase in the efficiency of the block. I used the task as an object of reserch to evaluate the options for compacting the urban structure. I also looked at my subject on a larger scale in the midst of the current climate crisis. I analyzed my design as part of the current field of architecture and as part of a temporal continuum. My point of view was in the current changes in the construction industry with regard to environmental issues. The calculation and assessment of carbon dioxide emissions in the future construction projects will affect the role of the architect as the emphasis of the entire Finnish construction industry changes. To reduce emissions from construction, the rehabilitation, reuse and recycling of the existing building stock is becoming a valuable factor. My master’s thesis examines the role of the architect between sustainable development and the changing needs of cities. I studyied the demolition of buildings, of which amount has been increasing recently. This phenomenon has been particularly evident in growing cities, where buildings are being demolished primarily in the way of new ones. I researched alternative solutions for the demolition of buildings from the scope of renovation. I looked at different ways of supplementary construction as well as ways to renovate buildings. Modification of existing buildings and only partial demolition also became options. I also presented ways of renovation to influence the energy efficiency of buildings, which is easily a justification for demolition and replacement rather than renovation.Description
