Abstract
Recently, VoIP over WLAN has attracted the attentions of many vendors. The IEEE802.11 WLAN was first designed for data traffic, but the DCF in it can also carry voice traffic. In this thesis work, the DCF in the environment of VoIP over WLAN is simulated. The first part of this thesis introduces the background knowledge of VoIP over WLAN. In the second part, a simulation program in C language is implemented. This program simulated the behaviors of the DCF, which is the fundamental access method of IEEE802.11 MAC. In the last part of this thesis, several results and conclusions are presented. The generated FER and buffer sizes in the network affect the effective capacity of VoIP over WLAN. One-time retransmission for failure frames is a good solution to decrease received FER. Too large buffer size in the downlink will degrade the network performance (FER, frame delay and capacity).Description
