Abstract
Master's Thesis forms a picture of impacts and possibilities of traffic upon urban development in land-use planning at the center core area of South Carelia.
Center core area is used here to mean dencily populated linear area formed by the highway through the centers of Lappeenranta, Joutseno and Imatra ashore of the lake Saimaa.
Work describes the relationships between highway traffic, zoning and structure of the city especially in a context of regional planning.
As a concept to solve described problems work defines a local plan, named road plan, which combines road and land-use planning environs of the highway.
Road plan is meant to act as a catalyser for growth and a spine for the unifying land use in the center core of municipality.
Diplomityö on kuvaus liikenteen vaikutuksista ja mahdollisuuksista kaupunkikehitykseen Etelä-Karjalan ydinalueen maankäytönsuunnittelussa.
Ydinalueella tarkoitetaan Lappeenrannan, Joutsenon ja Imatran taajama-alueiden muodostamaa nauhamaista rakennetta valtatie 6:n ja Saimaan vesistön rajaamalla harjualueella.
Työ hahmottaa liikenteen, kaavoituksen ja yhdyskuntarakenteen suhdetta erityisesti maakuntatason kehityksessä.
Kuvattuihin ongelmiin on määritelty ratkaisuksi ideatasoinen yleiskaavallinen suunnitelma, tiekaava, joka pyrkii yhdistämään liikenteen ja maankäytön ohitustieympäristössä.
Tiekaavan tarkoitus on toimia sekä katalyyttina kasvulle että selkärankana ydinaluetta yhdistävälle maankäytölle.
