This thesis addresses the genesis of my poetic documentary animation, ''My Mother Became a Bird'', from the initial idea to the end result. During the process of creating this animation, I researched mourning, pain, memory, object memory, and fear of forgetting. More precisely, by researching and searching the theoretical concepts that I wanted and the conceptual guide for writing the story and script of this animation; In this thesis, I discussed the creative process of research and searching and finding ideas until making the work and using visual techniques that helped the concept of the work.In the theory section, I defined and examined key concepts: mourning, pain, memory, hidden spirits in objects, and fear of forgetting. I also gave examples of works of art incorporating these themes. The medium of animation has provided me with a platform to express my emotions regarding the loss of my mother and the preservation of her memory in a visually captivating yet authentic and personal manner. Through animation, I have been able to breathe life into some of these memories and emotions. Given that memory is a subjective experience and can fade with time, it was crucial for me to immortalize my mother's memory by depicting her experiences in animation. To achieve this, I found that the hand-drawn charcoal animation technique combined with stop-motion object animation was the most effective method for bringing these memories to life. With the use of objects and photo animation, and incorporating real objects that belonged to my mother into the film, I aimed to showcase her documentary presence and evoke a sense of nostalgia. Additionally, the charcoal technique and the interplay of darkness and light within the film serve to convey the fleeting nature of memory and the fear of forgetting.en
