Abstract

There is a wide variety of views and experiences about the wind-induced vibration of high-rise timber buildings, and there is no unambiguous opinion about the severity and generality between different parties. The codes and standards used in the design differ from one another and are, in some cases, inadequate or limited in scope because of a minor investigation. The work consisted of a literature study of material for assessing and analyzing wind-induced vibrations, as well as calculation methods given in Eurocode to determine the maximum accelerations in a building. In addition, the calculation models were created by FEM software to assess the behavior of a 20-storey timber building when the connection parameters and total mass of the building are changed. Based on the results of the work, it was found that implementation of approximately 20-storey timber-framed building is possible in theory. In practice, for such high and dynamically sensitive buildings, investigations should be made in the wind tunnel without exception, as processing of large calculation models and data quantities with FEM software in not only slow but also fairly error-prone.

Korkeiden puukerrostalojen tuulivärähtelyn suhteen on paljon erilaisia näkemyksiä ja kokemuksia, eikä yksiselitteistä linjaa tuulivärähtelyn vakavuudesta ja yleisyydestä tunnu olevan eri tahojen välillä. Suunnittelussa käytettävät normit ja standardit poikkeavat toisistaan ja ovat paikoitellen hyvinkin puutteellisia tai käyttökohteiltaan rajoitettuja vähäisen tutkimuksen vuoksi. Työssä koottiin kirjallisuudesta tuulivärähtelyn arvioimiseen ja analysoimiseen soveltuvaa materiaalia, sekä esitetään Eurokoodin mukaisia laskentamenetelmiä rakennuksen suurimpien kiihtyvyyksien selvittämiseksi. Lisäksi FEM-ohjelmistolla luotiin laskentamalleja, joilla arvioitiin 20-kerroksisen puukerrostalon käyttäytymistä, kun laskentamallin liitosparametreja ja rakennuksen kokonaismassaa muutetaan. Työn tulosten pohjalta havaittiin, että noin 20-kerroksisen puurakenteisen kerrostalon toteuttaminen on teoriassa mahdollista. Käytännössä näin korkeille ja dynaamisesti herkille rakennuksille tutkimukset olisi syytä tehdä poikkeuksetta tuulitunnelissa, sillä suurten laskentamallien ja tietomäärien käsitteleminen FEM-ohjelmistolla on paitsi hidasta, myös melko virheherkkää.
