Abstract

Traditionally strategy has been seen as the basis for any company but more and more people and researchers are talking about business models. However, there seems to be confusion about the terminology and what a business model actually is. In this master's thesis a service offering and business model are developed for a case company, PrimeWeb. The case company is a small company that dedicates to delivering websites mostly to B2B customers. The company also has developed their own tool for updating the websites, Purple. The goal of the thesis is to find an alternative service and business model, by which the company can achieve growth and utilise Purple and gains expertise iii website planning and implementation. In the theoretical part the term business model as a definition is discussed and a framework based on literature is selected for the business model implementation. The theoretical part also includes a thorough presentation of the service perspective of businesses, taken mostly form the ideas of Grönroos (2007). In the results part of the thesis the developed service is presented based on the literature study and a customer analysis. The results include a service offering and other principle that serve as guidelines in every day work. A business model is then implemented using the framework of the theoretical part and the service developed. As a result of the work a business model is developed around a website implementation service intended for larger customers that deliver websites to their customers. For the case company the results are valuable and the results are a viable option instead of the existing service offering and business model. However, some effort is still needed for detailed development of the service as presented in the conclusions. The process itself has provided the company with insights of taking a service perspective and can be used also m the current business model and service.
