Abstract

The late cleaning of a planted forest stand is demanding operation that require precise observations and operation. Currently, the late cleaning is performed by man labor with brush-saw. In future, the late cleaning should be automated. The aim of this thesis is to implement a user interface to help to operate the cleaning of the forest stand with a forest machine. To achieve that a mapping of the forest stand performed with a drone. The system uses the map and the real-time measurements of the forest machine to achieve a real-time 3D graphical view of the scene. Furthermore, the user interface should provide a platform for future automating of the late cleaning. The goal is to prove that the concept could be used to achieve a system that would provide enough information that the user could perform a cleaning with forest machine. To align the map of the forest stand and the measurements from the forest machine a position estimation and user aided orientation estimation is used. In addition, the system estimates and visualizes the trees from the nearby environment. The implemented system were tested by simulating a late cleaning in real planted forest stand. The system proved to work real-time in the outdoor environment with the test platform and the previously measured map. The system was able to register the map and the measured data together in real-time. The user interface proved to visualize the environment and the forest machine for the user and help to perform the simulated cleaning. Nevertheless, the system is not enough for cleaning of a forest stand with forest machine and future develop is needed. At least, the controlling of the hydraulic crane should be developed to be more automated.

Taimikon raivaus on vaativa työskentely-ympäristö, joka vaatii raivaajalta monimutkaista havainnointia ja tarkkaa työskentelyä. Nykyisin taimikon raivaus tehdään käsityönä raivaussahalla. Tulevaisuudessa olisi toivottavaa, että myös taimikon raivaus pystyttäisiin koneellistamaan ja automatisoimaan mahdollisimman kattavasti. Työn tavoitteena on toteuttaa metsäkoneen käyttöä helpottava käyttöliittymä, joka tarjoaa kuljettajalle reaaliaikaisen kolmiulotteisen näkymän sekä ympäristöstä että metsäkoneen ja raivaimen asemasta. Käyttöliittymän tulisi lisäksi tarjota käyttäjälle selkeä kuva siitä, missä taimikon eri puut sijaitsevat. Käyttöliittymän tarkoituksena on tarjota lähtökohdat taimikon raivauksen automatisointiin. Työssä on tarkoitus osoittaa, että dronella tehty taimikosta generoitua kolmiulotteista pistepilvikarttaa voitaisiin käyttää hyväksi käyttöliittymässä. Taimikon karttaa ja järjestelmän mittaamaa dataa hyväksikäyttäen pystyttiin estimoimaan työkoneen sijainti kartalle. Lisäksi järjestelmä hyödynsi käyttäjäavusteista koneen orientaatiota määritystä. Lisäksi järjestelmä estimoi lähistöllä sijaitsevat taimet ja visualisoi niiden paikan suhteessa metsäkoneeseen. Järjestelmän testaamiseksi taimikon kartoitus ja käyttöliittymän testaus tehtiin oikeassa taimikossa ulkoilmassa. Toteutettu järjestelmä toimi reaaliaikaisesti ja pystyi käyttäjän avustuksella lokalisoimaan traktorin metsäkartalle tarkasti. Käyttöliittymän tarjoamaa visualisointia testattiin simuloimalla taimikon raivausta testijärjestelmällä. Käyttöliittymä osoittautui tomivaksi ja kykeni tarjoamaan käyttäjälle kolmiulotteisen reaaliaikaisen näkymän ympäristöstä. Huolimatta testien rohkaisevista tuloksista järjestelmä ei pysty sellaisenaan tarjoamaan valmista ratkaisua taimikon raivauksen koneellistamiseen. Tulevaisuudessa metsäkoneen hydrauliikan ohjauksen automatisointi on otettava osaksi tutkimusta.
