Abstract
This Master of Science thesis was made for the Sandvik Tamrock Turku plant for the purpose of developing the resource planning and controlling in the factory. In 2003 the plant will change ERP-systems, from "System 21" to the "Lean System", made by TietoEnator. With this change of systems many processes will be renewed. This thesis approaches the processes of scheduling, reporting and supervising of work phases and resources, as well as the reporting and supervising of the work time. The theoretical section of this Master's Thesis deals with production control. ERP as a concept is presented. As all of the company's processes must be examined and perfectly clear to successfully apply an ERP-system in a company, the process modelling objectives and goals are explained. Finally, the principles for surveying work, such as work performance and job grading, are presented. The practical section of this thesis examines the company's current situation and the ongoing Lean System project. The company's processes and current ERP-system are presented, as well as the way the work phases and work time is reported. All work phases and resources are examined and hierarchically grouped. The salary processes are clarified and readjusted. The results of this study show clear improvements in the controlling of work phases and resources. When the Lean System is taken in use in a couple of months, the number of work phases followed up in the production will increase from 6 to 28. The work time reports and supervising will undergo an extensive change. The prior way of typing work time manually will be replaced with electronically written reports straight into the Lean System.Description
