Abstract
In the last years, the textile industry has been striving to go through major changes because of the increasing climate consciousness of businesses and consumers alike. A very impactful part of the textile production process in terms of energy and natural resource usage, as well as climate impact, is the dyeing of textiles. In this thesis we will present some cellulose-based fibres chosen for this comparison, explore the most popular dyeing practices used on these fibres today and compare their overall environmental sustainability from different aspects. Some dye advancements and sustainable alternatives will be also compared to forecast how dyeing industry could potentially change in the future.
Kasvavan maailmanlaajuisen ympäristötietoisuuden takia viime vuosina tekstiiliteollisuudessa on pyritty ekologisuuden parannukseen. Luonnonvaroille ja ekosysteemille erityisen kuluttava prosessi tekstiilituotannossa on tekstiilikuitujen värjääminen. Tässä kandidaatintyössä tullaan esittelemään selluloosapohjaisia kuituja ja tutkimaan niiden erilaisten värjäysmenetelmien ympäristökestävyyttä monien tekijöiden näkökulmasta. Tutkielmassa käsitellään myös värjäysmenetelmien ekologisia kehitysvaihtoehtoja, ja niiden mahdollista vaikutusta tekstiiliteollisuuteen tulevaisuudessa.
