Abstract
This thesis studies the different possibilities in increasing sustainability in the case hardening facility of Konecranes’ Hyvinkää factory. The emphasis is the feasibility evaluation of investments in the furnaces and endo gas generator. The study was done by contacting suppliers and discussing different options and requesting quotations. The quotations and discussions were analysed and compared with each other. Return on investment calculations were approximated and sustainability factors evaluated. The conclusion of this thesis is that a long time plan for the facility needs to be made and the path forward chosen. The path could consist of a shift towards low pressure carburizing furnaces or continuing with the current setup and refurbishing the current furnaces. To be able to make a long time plan, measuring equipment should be installed and consumption data gathered. Further study based on precise data is necessary.Description
