Abstract
In the European logistics network, road transportation has held its position as an important form of transportation despite capacity and environmental challenges. Despite the importance of trucks in logistics chains, their weight and length limitations have largely stayed unchanged for the last 30 years in Europe. However, countries such as Finland and Sweden are pioneering the way by going past these limitations by increasing the weight and length limits of road trains.
This thesis studies the impacts of going beyond the standard EU length and weight limits of road trains that have been documented in trials throughout the EU through literature review. Another key purpose of this thesis is to give a comprehensive situational overview of the current legislation and usage of HCVs in Europe the future of wider adoption of HCVs in Europe. Finally, its purpose is to identify the main factors enabling or hindering the adoption HCVs in Europe.
Euroopan sisäisissä logistiikkaketjuissa maantiekuljetukset ovat säilyttäneet asemansa tärkeänä kuljetusmuotona kapasiteetti- ja ympäristöhaasteista huolimatta. Vaikka kuorma-autoilla on merkittävä rooli logistiikkaketjuissa, niiden paino- ja pituusrajoitukset ovat pysyneet suurimmaksi osaksi muuttumattomina viimeisen 30 vuoden ajan Euroopassa. Kuitenkin esimerkiksi Suomi ja Ruotsi ovat olleet edelläkävijöitä, ja nostaneet ajoneuvojen pituus- sekä painorajoja.
Tämä opinnäytetyö tarkastelee kirjallisuuskatsauksen avulla, millaisia vaikutuksia on sillä, että maantiekuljetuksissa ylitetään EU:n vakiintuneet paino- ja pituusrajat. Toinen keskeinen tavoite on antaa kattava tilannekuva HCT-kaluston nykyisestä lainsäädännöstä ja käytöstä Euroopassa. Opinnäytetyö arvioi myös HCT-kuljetusten laajemman käyttöönoton tulevaisuudennäkymiä tunnistamalla keskeisiä HCT-rekkojen käyttöönottoa tukevia ja haittaavia tekijöitä.
