Abstract
Technologies enabling the internet of things (IoT) have emerged in business operations across industries. Our research investigates the related changes in the metals and mining industry. Based on 53 qualitative interviews among experts and managers within this industry, we identified considerable misalignment between the user expectations and the supplied technologies. Hence, we suggest a more collaborative approach across the industry participants. Openness helps in acquiring the broad set of capabilities (analytic capability, IoT competency, business development, and substantive expertise) that are needed for the implementation of the IoT technologies in the industry-specific context.Description
