The objective of the study is to examine leakage of fluid power systems in paper machines, find out their reasons and solve the problems. By nature, the study is preliminary. The thesis begins after the introduction chapter by outlining the nature and scope of leakage investigated here. The literature search is mainly focused on piping, tubing hose and fitting sealing methods. Four reputable manufacturers and their main products are introduced, too. Leakage is a serious problem for paper finishing machines all over the world. The situation in Asian market is much worse than other regions. The variable reasons of leakage are existing in system design, components selection, pre-assembly and site erection. The actual and hidden costs of leakage is also analysed in this paper. The core of this paper, chapter 6, puts forward the possibility and requirements of building a leak-free fluid power system. An instruction for design, delivery, erection, tools selection, operation and maintenance is given. The present supervision on site erection and existing problems are discussed. Two suggestions are given: establish direct constrains between Valmet Corporation and subcontractor or hire engineering consulting company. Finally, the new concepts of prevent leakage of fluid power systems are discussed in brief. It is concluded - The leak-free fluid power system is absolutely a reality. - Human force plays an important role in building a successful leak-free hydraulic system for that the required technology already exists. The study considers in detail only the leakage concerning piping, tube, hose, fitting and other adapters of fluid power systems in paper finishing machines.en
