Abstract

This thesis presents the methodological support for creating a UX Research Manual that can be applied by UX researchers as the main addressees as well as by stakeholders from other disciplines. The idea for the manual arose from the fact that UX research is underrated and intangible, leading to skepticism about the utility of the discipline. Constructing a UX Research Manual aims to create a common understanding of UX research within the research team and the company that evokes a shift in awareness. The thesis follows the human-centered design process and applies different methods at various stages of this process. Team workshops and stakeholder interviews were conducted to specify user requirements. A qualitative content analysis formed the basis to triangulate the data across methods. The result was the identification of minimum content requirements to be included in the manual. The design of the manual was realized using Figma. The created draft was subjected to a usability test, which resulted in overall positive and helpful feedback on the content and structure of the manual. Limitations concern the usability and sustainability of the manual, which are due to the format of a PDF file. The research process has shown that there is a need for a tool like the UX Research Manual. The feedback given shows promising indications that the manual can eventually contribute to a change in awareness. Any findings from the usability testing will be used to further improve the manual before it is distributed within the company.
