Abstract

The objective of this thesis was to study the requirements for a work scope extension in a Part-145 approved aircraft maintenance organization. The research was carried out in Finnish Aircraft Maintenance Oy (FAM Oy) in a case study for the Embraer 170 commercial jet. The study was planned to serve three purposes. Firstly, the case study for the Embraer 170 jet was used to determine FAM Oy's readiness to start maintenance production for the Embraer 170. Secondly, the results of the study were sent to the Finnish civil aviation authority for review. The feedback from the authority is used when FAM Oy applies for the work scope extension approval from the aviation authority. The third purpose of the study was to create a general procedure for the work scope extension process for future reference. The source data for the study included the civil aviation regulations, the Embraer 170 maintenance manuals and FAM Oy's IT tools. To study the work scope extension process and the establishment of a maintenance capability further, a visit to Veho Group Oy Ab was arranged to share experiences on vehicle maintenance. The objectives set for this thesis were reached. FAM Oy is aware of its readiness to start maintenance production of the Embraer 170 and the approval process for the work scope extension has begun.

Tämän diplomityön tavoitteena oli tarkastella niitä vaatimuksia, jotka koskevat lentokonehuolto-organisaation huoltotoimintaluvan laajentamisprosessia. Diplomityö tehtiin Finnish Aircraft Maintenance Oy:ssä (FAM Oy) ja se suoritettiin tapaustutkimuksena Embraer 170- liikennelentokoneelle. Tutkimuksen piti täyttää kolme tavoitetta. Ensimmäinen tavoite oli tutkia FAM Oy:n valmiutta aloittaa Embraer 170-liikennekoneen huoltotuotanto. Tutkimuksen tästä osasta voidaan käyttää nimitystä huoltovalmiustarkastelu. Toinen tavoite oli lähettää huoltovalmiustarkastelun tulokset Suomen ilmailuviranomaisen arvioitavaksi ja hyödyntää saatua arviota FAM Oy:n hakiessa ilmailuviranomaiselta huoltotoimintaluvan laajennusta koskemaan Embraer 170-liikennelentokonetta. Diplomityön kolmas tavoite oli tehdä huoltovalmiustarkastelusta ja huoltotoimintaluvan laajentamiseen liittyvistä seikoista prosessikuvaus FAM Oy:lle tulevaisuuden tarpeita varten. Tutkimuksen lähdemateriaalina käytettiin pääasiassa ilmailumääräyksiä ja Embraer 170-lentokoneen valmistajan julkaisemaa huoltokirjallisuutta. Tutkimuksen aikana suoritettiin arviointikäynti toiseen huoltotoiminta-alan yritykseen (Veho Group Oy Ab). Diplomityön tavoitteet täyttyivät. FAM Oy:ssä on määritelty huoltotuotannon aloittamisen edellytykset ja toimenpiteet huoltovalmiuden rakentamiseksi sekä viranomaisluvan saamiseksi ovat käynnistyneet.
