Abstract

The primary goal of this thesis is to improve the manufacturing capacity of Metso Automation's Helsinki Supply Center (SP) by 10 percent, with the current manufacturing capacity being 7500 keur/month, by improving assembly and manufacturing processes. The focus of the changes to be made in the supply center involves improving methods, layout and manufacturing processes. Actions prior to manufacturing in the order-delivery process are not examined. The study is divided into four parts: theory, examination of current situation, definition of problem areas and presentation of performed actions. At the end of the study, there is a schedule for actions that will be implemented as well as recommendations for the future. Different ways to improve manufacturing process are presented in the theoretical part of the study. Resources to be used in improving are always limited. The goal of the theory part is to find critical success factors in manufacturing process. The biggest accomplishment during this thesis was the layout project. Demand for the new layout emerged because current because customer inspection needed new premises and storage space of Supply Center had decreased. The whole layout had to be reorganized. The basis for the new layout is in the material flow analysis. During the layout process, a great advantage was the vast experience of the assembly employees. Material flow through the Supply Center is large and, as a result of the variation the number of items is great. Therefore material management has a remarkable effect on production management and productivity at the Supply Center. As a result of this work, new production development projects were launched. For example there was the designing of a new assembly bench and the continuous improvement of assembly environment. Also, economical and operational indicators for production management were created.

Tämän työn tavoitteena on kasvattaa toimituskeskuksen tuotantokapasiteettia nykyisestä 7500 kEUR/kk 10 %:lla työ- ja tuotantomenetelmiä kehittämällä. Toimituskeskuksessa toteutettavat muutokset koskevat kokoonpanon menetelmien, layoutin, ja tuotantoprosessin kehitystä. Tilaus-toimitusketjussa tapahtuvien toimintojen kehittäminen ennen tuotanto-prosessia on rajattu työn ulkopuolelle. Työ on jaettu teoriaosaan, tutkimuskohteen nykytilanteen kuvaukseen, muutostarpeiden määrittelyyn ja toteutettujen toimenpiteiden esittelyyn. Lopuksi esitetään toteutettavien asioiden aikataulu ja suosituksia jatkotoimenpiteistä. Työn teoriaosassa on käsitelty kirjallisuudesta löytyviä malleja koskien layoutin, tuotantoprosessin ja kokoonpanon menetelmäkehitystä. Kehitystyöhön käytettävissä olevat resurssit ovat aina rajalliset. Teoriatutkimuksen tavoitteena on ollut löytää tuottavuuden kannalta kriittiset menestystekijät tuotantoprosessista. Suurin työn aikana toteutettu projekti oli layoutin suunnittelu. Muutoksen taustalla oli tarve uusia asiakastarkastuksen tilat ja yleisen varastointitilan väheneminen. Toimituskeskuksen layout oli suunniteltava kokonaan uudelleen. Layoutin suunnittelussa on käytetty apuna materiaalivirta-analyysia, ja koko toimituskeskuksen henkilökunnan ammattitaitoa ja kokemusta. Toimituskeskuksen läpi kulkeva materiaalivirta on suuri ja useiden tuotevariaatioiden takia nimikkeiden määrä valtava. Siksi materiaalin hallinnalla on merkittävä vaikutus toimituskeskuksen tuotannonohjaukseen ja kannattavuuteen. Työn aikana käynnistettiin myös kehitysprojekteja tuottavuuden parantamiseksi. Näitä olivat kokoonpanopukin suunnittelu ja asentajien kokemuksen aktiivinen hyödyntäminen kokoonpanotyön jatkuvassa parantamisessa. Lisäksi tuotannolle kehitettiin taloudellisia ja operationaalisia seurantamittareita. Läpi työn asentajien pitkäaikaisen kokemuksen tuoman ammattitaidon hyödyntäminen on ollut merkittävässä roolissa mietittäessä toteutettavia ratkaisuja.
