Abstract

This thesis is a research on fantasy, myth and stop-motion animation, and a reflection on how this research contributed for the production of the short film "Mother of Dawn". The text aims to outline the idea that fantasy stories, throughout human history, have always been a tool for understanding and building the world, and can be a way of imagining alternatives for our reality. The stop-motion technique is presented as a method for exploring another type of reality in the animation realm, allowing perspective explorations. To support the ideas presented I use as reference the words of authors such as Ursula K.Le Guin, Donna Haraway and Ailton Krenak, and the work of artists like Allison Schulnik and Monica Cook.
