Abstract

Over the past few years, the concern regarding quality and safety in food production has become increasingly problematic in Vietnam. The issue involves safety management and regulations compliance from various stakeholders in the food industry, thus inevitably relates to corporate responsibility. As a result, the question of how to improve the situation has emerged. The thesis studies the roles and analyzes the engagement of different stakeholders in the food chain, from the perspective of food and beverage companies in Vietnam. In order to make sense of the phenomenon, the content of food safety issue is linked as one dimension among seven key aspects of corporate social responsibility in food chain, as suggested by Forsman-Hugg et al (2013). The thesis is based on qualitative data drawn from three food and beverage companies in Vietnam, in which the interactions between the firms and their stakeholders are studied, along with the analysis of extensive information sources. The thesis presents how stakeholders are identified and prioritized by Vietnamese food and beverage companies and how the engagement between the firm and their stakeholders is implemented.
