Abstract

Gender equality has been a relevant topic for years in corporate sections across various fields. Consequently, this thesis focuses on gender equality within the world of football. Although women’s football has been significantly growing and gaining more funding and viewership in recent years, female coaches remain underrepresented. The thesis gives a comprehensive overview of the state of women’s football, with particular focus on the coaching situation. It identifies the barriers that women in coaching position face and explores possible solutions to improve the circumstances. Additionally, it discusses the positive correlation between female representation at the executive level and female coaches. The thesis also addresses how female coaches encounter similar challenges as women in leadership positions in general.

Sukupuolten tasa-arvo on ollut ajankohtainen aihe jo vuosia eri aloilla yritysmaailmassa. Tämä opinnäytetyö keskittyy sukupuolten tasa-arvoon jalkapallomaailman kontekstissa. Vaikka naisjalkapallo on kokenut merkittävää kasvua, sekä rahoituksen ja katsojakunnan lisääntymistä viime vuosina, naisvalmentajat pysyvät aliedustettuina. Opinnäytetyön tarjoaa kattavan kuvauksen naisjalkapallon nykytilanteesta, keskittyen erityisesti naisvalmentajien asemaan. Työ kartoittaa naisvalmentajien kohtaamia esteitä, sekä mahdollisia ratkaisuja tilanteen parantamiseksi. Lisäksi se käsittelee positiivista korrelaatiota johtotason naisedustuksen, sekä naisvalmentajien välillä. Työ käsittelee myös samankaltaisuuksia naisjohtajien ja naisvalmentajien kohtaamien vaikeuksien välillä.
