Abstract
Information technology enables new working methods that can be used also to reduce the environmental emissions. Great amount of emissions caused by today's office work is due to travelling and the use of office space. The environmental consequences in travelling are mostly caused by flying, whereas the use of office space requires lots of energy to be used for lightning, heating and air conditioning. The purpose of this research is to investigate and analyze how the new working methods could be evaluated to be able measure positive impacts for the environment. Quantitative methods were used to carry out the research; literature review was created to backup the theoretical analyzes of the research, whereas interviews structured around chosen themes were carried out to receive further material to be able to evaluate the new working methods and their consequences. Real estate management plays an important role when creating operational environment for virtual communication; ii is very important that physical environment supports the virtual interaction. Increased distant work reduces the use of office space and enables the more efficient use of the space. By concentrating more on working environment and the more efficient use of office space the amount of emissions can also be reduced. Use of energy in data centres that are required to support virtual work is in a distinguishing position when evaluating the consequences for the environment. By using better operational planning environmental emissions can be reduced, which also leads to greater financial savings. Besides the problems mentioned above there are also challenges in management that need to be considered when creating an environmentally friendly operational environment. The observations made in this research were used to create a tool for environment tai management. This 100/ can be used by an organisation lo evaluate how well their present working environment enables them to achieve positive environmental effects.Tietotekniikka mahdollistaa uusia työtapoja, joiden avulla voidaan vähentää yrityksen toiminnasta aiheutuvia ympäristöpäästöjä. Nykypäivän toimistotyöstä aiheutuvista päästöistä iso osa syntyy matkustamisesta ja toimistotilan käytöstä. Matkustamisen päästöt aiheutuvat lentomatkustamisesta ja toimisto tilan päästöt valaistukseen, lämmitykseen ja jäähdytykseen käytetyn energian tuotannosta. Työn tavoitteena oli tutkia sitä kuinka uusien työlapojen avulla saavutettavia ympäristöhyötyjä voitaisiin arvioida. Työ toteutettiin tutustumalla kirjallisuuteen ja sen osana aineistoa kerättiin teemahaastatteluin. Toimitilajohtaminen on huomattavassa roolissa luo laessa toimintaympäristöä virtuaaliselle vuoro vaikutukselle, koska virtuaalisen vuorovaikutuksen kannalta on olennaisen tärkeää, että fyysinen ympäristö tukee virtuaalista kommunikointia. Kasvava etätyön tekeminen vähentää toimistotilan tarvetta ja mahdollistaa sen käytän tehostamisen. Tässä työympäristöratkaisujen avulla voidaan tehostaa tilankäyttöä ja saada vähennettyä toimistotilan määrää. Virtuaalisen kommunikoinnin vaatimien palvelinkeskusten energiankulutuksen kannalta on olennaista niiden tilojen energiankulutus, joissa palvelimet sijaitsevat. Paremmalla suunnittelulla voidaan saada aikaan huomattavia säästöjä energiankulutuksen pienenemisen kautta. Edellä mainittujen asioiden lisäksi on myös muita johtamisen haasteita, jotka tulee ottaa huomioon luotaessa toimintaympäristöä, joka mahdollistaa ympäristöhyötyjen saavuttamisen. Työssä tehtyjen havaintojen pohjalta luotu virtuaalityön ympäristöjohtamisen työkalu on tarkoitettu toimimaan välineenä, jonka avulla yritys voi arvioida sitä kuinka hyvin nykyinen työympäristö mahdollistaa virtuaalisen työn avulla saavutettavat positiiviset ympäristövaikutukset.Description
