Abstract
This Master’s thesis focuses on wearable sensor devices, their use in general as well as in the monitoring of built environments. After presenting wearable sensor devices, a review of existing methods of thermal comfort modeling is conducted. As for the practical part of the work, a computer application is developed to gather data from commercial smart sensor devices and to predict the users’ thermal sensations in real-time with the collected data. After collecting a set of training data from the users and the sensors, only the sensor data are required for predicting the users’ thermal sensations. During the project, a small set of training data is collected with the developed tools to assess the feasibility of monitoring thermal comfort with wearable devices.
Diplomityö keskittyy puettaviin sensorilaitteisiin, niiden käyttöön yleisesti ja sisäolosuhteiden monitoroinnissa. Puettavien monitorointilaitteiden esittelyn jälkeen työssä tehdään katsaus olemassa oleviin menetelmiin lämpömukavuuden mallintamiseksi sisäympäristöissä. Työn käytännön osuudessa kehitetään tietokonesovellus, joka kerää dataa kaupallisista älykkäistä sensorilaitteista, ja ennustaa käyttäjien lämpötuntemuksia reaaliajassa kerätyn datan perusteella. Kehitetyillä työkaluilla kerätään pienehkö kokoelma esimerkkidataa, jonka perusteella arvioidaan valittujen menetelmien soveltuvuutta lämpömukavuuden monitoroinnissa puettavilla laitteilla.
