Abstract
Taiteen maisterin kirjallisessa opinnäytetyössä tutkin omaa taiteellista kasvuprosessiani, joka liittyi opinnäytteeni taiteellisen osuuden, eli päättötyöelokuvani Suonsilmän (20”, ELO 2023) temaattisiin ja taiteellisiin lähtökohtiin. Päättötyöelokuvani aiheen valintaan liittyy mielestäni kiinnostava ajatusketju, jota kuvailen tässä opinnäytteessä. Vertaan sen osasia muiden elokuvaohjaajien, kuten Andrei Tarkovskin ja Aki Kaurismäen, ajatuksiin ja filosofiaan. Pohdin elokuvan aiheen henkilökohtaisuuden merkitystä itselleni ohjaajana, sekä kartoitan itsereflektioni sokeita pisteitä aiheen valintaan liittyen. Tässä opinnäytteessä kuvailen ohjaamani päättötyöelokuvan “kehittelyprosessin kehittelyprosessia”, epätieteellisesti ja subjektiivisella tavalla. Tekstin laajuus kattaa ajatuksieni ketjun kesäkuusta 2021, käsikirjoitusvaiheen alkuun asti, eli marraskuuhun 2021. Keskityn kuvailemaan oman ajatusprosessini rakennetta, maailmankuvani kehitystä ja mielenkiintoni kohteita matkan varrella. Elokuvan ensimmäisissä taiteellisissa valinnoissa yritin paeta ajallemme tyypillistä egoismia ja siksi päädyin lähestymään teosta uudella tavalla, jonka vaikutuksia havainnollistan tässä opinnäytteessä. Lopuksi tutkin sitä, kuinka ulkokohtainen ja objektiivisuuteen pyrkivä aiheeni paljastuukin vaivihkaa minulle äärimmäisen henkilökohtaiseksi. Reitti ajatuksista käsikirjoitukseen oli Suonsilmän tapauksessa varsin vaiheikas ja opettavainen, mutta suurimpana asiana pidän sitä, että matka opetti minulle tärkeän havainnon taiteilijan paikasta maailmassa. Saavun lopulta siihen päätelmään, ettemme me taiteilijat ole koskaan yksin, vaikka joskus voi siltä tuntua. Olen muiden taiteilijoiden lailla kulttuurisesta virrasta erottamaton ajatusten risteys, en päätepiste.In this thesis, I investigated my own artistic growth process, which was related to the thematic and artistic starting points of the artistic part of my thesis; my thesis film Suonsilmä (20”, ELO 2023). To me, the choice of the topic of my thesis film is connected to an interesting chain of thought, which I describe in this thesis. I compare parts of it with the thoughts and philosophy of other film directors, such as Andrei Tarkovski and Aki Kaurismäki. I reflect on the importance of the personal nature of the film's subject for me as a director, and I map out the blind spots of my self-reflection regarding this choice of subject. In this thesis I describe “the development process of the development process” of the thesis film I directed, in an unscientific and subjective way. The scope of the text covers the journey of development from June 2021, until the beginning of the screenwriting phase, which started in November 2021. I focus on describing the structure of my own thought process, the development of my worldview and the objects of my interest along the way. In the first artistic choices of the film, I tried to escape the typical egoism of our time and therefore ended up approaching the work in a new way, the effects of which I illustrate in this thesis. Finally, I examine how my external and objectivity-oriented subject is revealed to be extremely personal to me. In the case of Suonsilmä, the route from ideas to the screenplay was quite colourful and instructive, but for me the biggest thing is that the journey taught me an important observation about the artist's place in the world. I finally came to the conclusion that we artists are never alone, even though sometimes it can feel like it. Like other artists, I am an intersection of ideas inseparable from the cultural flow, not an end point of any sort.Description
